Such Fun!

Yvette a hen pinkeeper (available)
Minuit a bird pinkeeper (sold)
Moondrop Catcher (sold)

There are so many new things for sale on my website, ( there are still many new things left! ) and I had so much fun bringing them to life. Lunette's little brass swing was found on a blanket of goodies at the last antiques market I was able to attend last summer. I didn't know what I would do with it, but it has found a purpose. Little Raja's shoe came from eBay a while ago, and it was a regal and exotic looking shoe, with metallic thread embroidery. So a little royal elephant had to go in it! Moondrop's little bottle of moon dust came in a pile of dirt, delivered years ago for our new barn. I keep things until the right time comes, and what fun it is to discover them. I am at times an archaeologist, saving bits of the past for a new purpose. That makes me a green person, and from what I understand, terribly chic and socially conscious! I really like being an artist. Do stop by and see what I have made for you. http://www.kingfisherfarm.net/

Kingfisher Farm Ellie makes a non-partisan appearance...

In Teddy Bear and Friends!

The cover:

My pal Peng Peng's little red ellie:

Isn't the cover stunning? That polar bear is by Kelly Dean. You must get the issue, the inside is packed with wonderful bears and pachyderms. You will find a link to the magazine on the right column, under Fun Friendly Places. This was also the last issue of the magazine edited by Mindy Kinsey. Mindy is off to be the editor of Doll Reader, although she assures the teddy world she will still play a hand in TBF. I wish her all the best, as she has been a great supporter of Kingfisher Farm Teddies and Folk Art. Thank you Mindy!

For the New Moon

Here I am, with my formerly feral cat, claiming me from my rescue puppy, yes it is he, the little murderer! Behind me is Bunny's hutch, but he has now gone on to a new home. We kept him for 5 yrs, and it was nagging to get Leah to care for him. Now he lives with a young family of 3 little boys, so he will get lots of cuddles. The picture is blurry because we figured out some quirky knob on the camera had been turned just a hair. Technology is so tricky!

I have been working I swear! And thrifting. I brought home something, for once, that delighted my husband. It was this:

Hubby said he had one just like it as a boy! He said, you have to unscrew the lid to put a half dollar in it. Gosh remember when getting a coin like that in your birthday card was a thrill?

And here is a fall collage that will be part of a pinkeep. I have several pretty blue hens. I must confess that I have never made blue hens before! I am just getting wilder in my old age I guess.

I am gearing up for my update in October 28th, at 12 noon central, with new things, among them blue hens! So mark your calendar, and see what the light of the new moon brings to Kingfisher Farm!

Hen of the Woods

The top of the mushroom.

The bottom.
Here I hold the stalk.

My daughter was helping my hubby move tree logs from a rotted tree we had to cut down. It was too close to our power lines, so it had to go. It did have a lot of bore holes in it from insects. At the base of the tree stump Leah found a huge hen-of-the-woods mushroom. Hubby told her it probably wasn't an edible mushroom, but she knows I am the resident expert and she loves eating what we find. So she ran to get me. It must have weighed ten pounds, and you can see it takes up one half of my sink! The photos dont really show how heavy and large it was. After soaking it and removing all the sawdust I was left with 2 huge containers.

Leah and I had quite a breakfast of it!

It has the texture of chicken. It has a wonderful flavor. I can't describe it. I made a simple batter of a large fresh egg, some milk and some crushed Town House crackers and sauteed them in butter. After cooking I sprinkled on some salt, that's it! So easy, and was it good? Oh yes.

I have always loved mushrooms. We have dryad saddles and slippery jacks, but I didn't find any of those this year. We have had puffballs and horse mushrooms too. This is the first hen-of-the-woods. I sure hope we find some again next fall. I love free food! Of course, bad taxonomy can kill you. I use the Peterson Field Guides Mushrooms and Start Mushrooming by Stan Tekiela and Karen Shanberg. I resorted to buying the Peterson book since we didnt have many of the "safe six" mushrooms here on Kingfisher Farm. There are so many more edible ones that grow here, but if you are in doubt dont eat it. People have told me in horror, "you could get poisoned!"

Well I am happy to report I did get a good grade in Botany in college. I'm smarter than the average bear, and about as well fed as one!!

http://vivianne-galli.blogspot.com/2008/10/shame-on-me.html

Thank you all for your kind words about my loss of my dear little feathered friend. Your kindness is everything and reminds me of all the goodness in the world. I have gone out of my blue mood to work on a new project for the new moon coming on the 28th, A Rhapsody in Blue for the New Moon! Mark your calendars, at 12 noon October the 28th I will have new work for you. Blessings, Pam

The BLue Mood

I indulged in a little retail therapy. Ceramics by Shirley were the first thing I got.

Shirley teaches her craft at a local college. She has no blog nor website, and didnt know what etsy was! I hope she sets up shop there.

If she doesn't you can call her, remember we are on Central time please! Oh I guess you need the number its fuzzy, 217-423-6638, and her prices are very affordable. I love the necklace with this happy face.

I bought these children's hankies. I will list on etsy soon.

This little 2o's ragdoll is so heavy, made from feedsack. Her sad little eyes mirror mine.

I am working, and it's all blues.

I bought vintage fabric(white background), and it goes so well with the civil war repro that I already had.

A wonderful 50's blockprint. The animals and florals on it are so current again. Its almost too pretty to cut.

The blooms, although immersed in blue, are cheerful.

Have a great day. Pam
